The Creekside Strays wanted to show their support for Team Q! Lead singer James says they are CBC fans and listeners of Q and that often in the middle of the night he’ll look through some of Jian’s interviews on YouTube.  :) I do that too!

You can checkout The Creekside Strays website http://www.thecreeksidestrays.com/fr_home.cfm and check out a show! The are playing December 15th at Lee’s Palace in Toronto and December 16th at The Blackshire in London. Support your local talent!

Q in the Community #JianinLdnOnt

Just a sneak preview of some of faces of Q in our community.  Stay tuned for more to come……

Q Rally is Quite the Success!

A small but enthusiastic group of  London CBC listeners rallied together to help spread the message that we really do want Q and #JianinLdnOnt. I was proud to be a part of a really diverse group of supporters who were all very passionate about getting the message out that this is an amazing city not only for CBC to do a live Q show here but also to let the rest of the world know what we have to offer.   I suspected, but it was confirmed today that there is no typical Q listener. People of all ages, economic status and ethnic background listen to Q and there are as many reasons to love Q as there are listeners. We are going to have an opportunity to each list our reasons within the next few days, here on this site.  Stay tuned!

Special thanks to our wonderful  Unicycling. Filming. Weird. guy who came up with this great idea and then filmed it on a unicycle!     Brian MacKenzie  http://www.unicycleglidecam.com/blog/

A really big thank you to Jody Bailey for creating this incredible website for us to coordinate our community efforts. It is very impressive and does a great job of showcasing our efforts! I check this site a hundred times a day. :)

Thank you to everyone who came to the rally or liked the group on facebook or used the hash tag on twitter or made Q’s for our picture group…. all of you thank you! But please…. do it again! We only have a few more days left to strengthen our case to have Q and #JianinLdnont.

*If you want to help and don’t know how or have an idea you need help with or if you are a local business or organization that wants your picture taken with our Q signs (or you can make your own) please email me at selfproclaimedmuse@hotmail.com or see me on twitter @cherishmuse.

I was fortunate enough to meet local London celebrity, Rita DeBook a few years ago when she was working on the “Have You Seen Rita?” campaign with Literacy Link South Central. Rita is London’s Literacy Advocate and you may have seen her around various locations in the city promoting literacy. Oh, and you might have noticed… Rita is a mannequin.  I couldn’t wait to tell Rita about the community coming together to bid to have Q do a live show for us here in our own city!  Rita is excited about the #JianinLdnont project and knowing that literacy is an issue that is important to both her and Jian, she asked if we could pass along this message to him.

Rita DeBook says: “Literacy is more than a book.”

Literacy is about awareness, about participation, about community, about passion.

London, Ontario has increased its awareness about the issue over the past 2 years with my help!  I came to London with one hope – to help people realize the importance that literacy plays in our lives.  In everything we do, in everything we are, literacy is there.

London has welcomed me with open arms, allowing me to take part in festivals, events, and even politics!  I want to show the rest of the world what a great place London is to live.  We have a community spirit, we are creative, we are FUN!

Jian, please help us get the word out!

London resident Brian Mackenzie from http://www.unicycleglidecam.com has come up with a great idea for our Q project! He says….

“Let’s fill up Victoria Park this Saturday, Dec 3, 2011, at noon, and have London win this contest hands down!”

Brian’s going to film, while on a unicycle,  a large group of us Q supporters all together waving our Q’s! We will be a sea of Q’s. Be creative! You can draw one on cardboard or use anything you can think of to make a unique Q. I will be there snapping pictures of the best Q’s to put up in our Q photo pool! http://www.flickr.com/groups/1830251@N21/pool/

Let’s have a lot of fun with this! Are there any face painters willing to donate time and supplies to make a few hundred Q’s? Let’s get as many groups as we can joining in despite the short notice. Guiding and scouting groups, Book clubs, Dog walkers, cheerleaders! sports teams, music lovers, art lovers, Jian fans, CBC fans, the whole family… let’s all get together for some amazing footage of our Q spirit!

It’s pretty safe to say that we’ve impressed Q with our enthusiasm and there is no doubt in their mind that London is willing, able & excited to host a live show. We are pulling together a clean, creative campaign and the momentum is just getting going! We have less than a week to knock this out of the ball park.

Whether or not Q picks us we’ve already won! We have gathered together as a community for a common goal. We shown the CBC that they are an important part of our lives and that public broadcasting is meaningful to us. We are amazing!

See you Saturday at noon in Victoria Park! Wear red if you can and please bring a Q!

** Note  Brian suggests that we please also bring a canned food item to donate to the food bank to help them through this really tough time of year.

Mayor Joe Fontana is backing #JianInLdnOnt

Mayor Joe Fontana has returned from a trip overseas and posted this on city councillor Judy Bryant’s Facebook page:

We’re in a serious race London. Let’s not be out performed– we’re proud of our arts and culture and it’s time to stand up and show it. Think about our fantastic theatre companies, artists, musicians and festivals–we’ve got it all. Our greatest asset in London is our people. Let’s make sure Jian Ghomeshi and his entire Q audience knows just how much London, Ontario has to offer. Start by ‘Like’ ing this page and then share it–by way of your own page, or send it to your list. Let’s do this London!

Apparently it is “go time” from city hall.
